RV Camping – British Columbia

RV Camping at Muncho Lake Provincial Park – BC

British Columbia has an extensive series of parks, some are classified as a Provincial Park and found here British Columbia Provincial Parks Many of these have reservable camping sites and the on-line system is here BC Parks Reservations as well as the information for phoning in your reservation. Most BC Provincial campgrounds will have no electrical services. There are some with showers and bathrooms and others will have only a ‘dry’ toilet facility. This information can be found on the information web page, listing all parks in BC.

Other parks in the BC system are classified as Recreational Camp sites and these tend to be remote, user maintained and no Host. There is usually no fee for these campsites, unless it is referred to as ‘enhanced’. This will mean there is a Host in place. You can locate all Rec sites using this web page and it will show you all the information as you click on any given campsite. http://www.sitesandtrailsbc.ca/default.aspx

There are many private RV campgrounds. Pretty much every town has at least one, plus many small cities will have a Community campground. These will tend to be more rustic in nature, often with very basic services. This site contains many links for finding an RV destination that suits you. http://www.hellobc.com/british-columbia/things-to-do/outdoor-activities/camping.aspx as does this one.. http://www.travel-british-columbia.com/camping/
Many people prefer to boondock. They do this for a variety of reasons and in BC, there is no shortage of boondocking sites. Bearing in mind the age old rules about asking permission first, if you think you may be on private land. Plus, in BC, we have many First Nation lands that are not always clearly marked. If you are using a GPS, that will usually show you the boundaries. Failing that, if you can, ask someone. A suggestion…if you have a choice, ask an elder. They often can give permissions that younger folk cannot.

Things to do…events and so on. http://www.hellobc.com/british-columbia/things-to-do/festivals-events/all-events.aspx Where ever I am, I like to take the opportunity to taste the flavours. Farmers Markets, cultural things, rodeos. All of these things are to be found and it always kinds of leaves me wondering…why do people rush thru BC and not hang out a bit and see some of the ‘stuff’. I see that in the events calendar there is no mention of Pow Wows. http://calendar.powwows.com/events/categories/pow-wows/pow-wows-in-british-columbia/ Go to some of these and you’ll be asking yourselves …’what took me so long?’

Some boondocking spots I have spent time at.

British Columbia RV Camping - New Hazelton NEW HAZELTON

British Columbia RV Camping - New Hazelton

A wonderful boondocking site right on the Bulkley River. West of New Hazelton, turning off at the signs for South Hazelton and looking for the Caradine Motel, as a landmark. Left turn into the camping area.
The village of Old Hazelton is worth the drive thru. First Nations Museum, arts and history.
